I want some Quiznos

Friday - 9:30 AM Boyo - I really did an excellent job of avoiding jetlag this trip. I am up and chipper. Day two (three if you include the day flying). The first trip to Hong Kong I was sleepy the entire time. I never did get adjusted - fell asleep at the table at a dinner party - embarrasing! Not to mention that my sleep habits at home have been really weird of late. Sleeping till 11, staying up til three. Maybe it was good for me to come over half the way around the world - hit the reset button. Yesterday - lunch at the Ritz Carlton with Henry - two bottles of wine and a vodka tonic - at lunch! We had a great afternoon (great afternoon buzz) - Henry has a rather nice car and we went for a good drive to Kowloon - this was my irst real driving in Hong Kong experience and the traffic here is like an amusement park ride. Everthing in Hong Kong is vertical and twisty - and Henry drives fast. And on the wrong side of the street. Ha ha - it was fun. We went to see Henry and Ivy's new house and saw the kids for a while. Then dinner at a very insider sushi place. I thought of my friend springdew. I think she likes sushi - if she does then this was the place for her. Very serious conversations about food that I mostly never heard of. Not the place to walk in and order a California roll. Now - I don't care for sushi - but the other diners told me it was sublime. I had some interesting grated vegetable/squid tempura. And some fantastic oily broiled fish - I'd never had such an oily fish and it was so rich. The whole serving about the size of my palm to be shared at the table. Didn't need much - mild flavored but the slick texture was great - hard to describe - slippery and sweet fish flesh. Then Tom, Albert and I went to a newish district of bars/clubs they are calling Soho (of course) and a place called Curve for "Mail Box Night" - or Male Box - it *was* afterall a gay bar - the gist is that everyone wears numbers and you can write messages on little slips of paper to communicate with others in the club. A girl types them up on a kind of instant message app that is projected on the walls. You can have some fun with that. Tom and I kept sending each other the message - I want some Quiznos - this is from a commercial we have back home - it has become a "thing" for us, this commercial - and speaking of hard to describe - if you haven't seen it you just wouldn't get it - suffice to say it is a commercial for a sandwich joint that stars some rats in hats with scary teeth and pasted on eyes. - I know. Still no tickets to Bangkok - thought we think we are leaving on Sunday - smile - today we go to Graley - the tailor - he makes our shirts - Tom need some shirts and I think I am going to ask if they can make a shirt dress for me. Nothing beats a tailored shirt. ... Link |
